How to Use the Japan Trip Cost Calculator
Planning a trip to Japan? Use our Japan trip cost calculator to estimate your travel expenses quickly and easily. Here’s how:
Choose Your Currency or a currency you know and can easily relate.
Travel Period – using a calendar input the total number of days for your trip.
Choose Your Country. This will calculate an approximate travel cost.
Number of Travelers: Enter the number of people traveling with you including children. Note, that children 0-6 are not included into any expenses (we understand that there will be some expenses but you can adjust it in the end of the calculator.
Flight Cost: choose a flight class, or enter a custom amount if you know the flight expenses – that will override the proposed cost.
Accommodation Tier: select from economy to luxury options to calculate nightly costs. Again, this is going to show the approximate costs, whereas real expenses can differ depending on a city or even a part of a city. The cost will be calculated per night.
Transportation (JR Pass and additional commute): pick the appropriate JR Pass for your trip duration—7, 14, or 21 days and add some additional expenses. If you do not leave a major city in Japan, that should usually be $10-15 a day.
Meal Budget: choose your daily meal expense based on your dining preferences. To fully understand the tiers you can also check our blog. The cost will be calculated per day, all partial days will be counted as one.
Souvenirs and Shopping – estimate shopping expenses with options for different spending levels. This is something that can be based on both – your previous experience and some research. We will also help you with the later.
Guided Tours – if you are looking for a guide in Japan – we have also included this option to consider your budget – the cost is approximate and may differ greatly.
Additional Costs and Activities: Add any other activities or tours to get a comprehensive trip cost estimate.
